2024-2025 Energy Tool Kit Workshops

Bring the climate conversation to life in the classroom with an Energy Tool Kit!

Learning about energy is a valuable way for students to understand Alberta’s natural resource landscape and how it impacts our economy and environment. The Energy Education Tool Kit includes tools, activities, and lessons adapted from Inside Education’s energy programs to create an immersive energy education experience for your students.

Inside Education provided 75 Energy Tool Kits during the 2023-24 school year through our Energy Tool Kit Workshops in Lethbridge, Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, and Fort McMurray. For the 2024-2025 school year, we have a limited amount of Tool Kits available and will be hosting two hands-on teacher workshops concurrently in Calgary and Edmonton on November 29, 2024, from 3:00 - 4:30 pm.

The deadline to apply is November 15, 2024.

These no-cost hands-on workshops will introduce you to key energy topics and enhance your own understanding of the energy sector. We will dig into the Tool Kit materials and share best practices for using the tools to enhance student learning in your classroom.

NOTE: This program is open to teachers from across Alberta. Multiple teachers from the school are welcome to attend the workshop, however only one tool kit per school is available. You must participate in the workshop to receive an Energy Education Tool Kit for your school.

*A half-day supply teacher subsidy or a travel subsidy is available for teachers who attend the workshop. Please refer to the Subsidy Policy for more information.

The Energy Tool Kit

The Energy Tool Kit is split into nine topics, each exploring a different aspect of energy in Alberta. Each topic has an introductory sheet, activities, and opportunities to “consider, connect and learn more”. The tool kit has multiple curricular connections and is best suited for Grades 4-9 but can be adapted to other grades as well. Each kit includes $400 worth of equipment and everything you need to guide your students through the activities.

"The workshop was a wonderful experience because we got to talk to professionals, explore the energy tool kit and learn a lot of new and different things. We had the opportunity to branch out and learn about the opportunities we will have in the future as careers and new jobs. It was a way for us to connect with experts and learn from their experiences.”
